CPP Changes of Increase

From the start of Jan 2024, the Canadian Government has made some major changes to the CPP Cost of Living Increase that were affected by the retirement planning. The major changes come in the limit of CPP retirement benefits which has been changed from $66,600 to $68,500. Along with this, the maximum pension earnings made by employers and employees are also reflected in the changes in their average wages. This means the individual who earns a previous YMPE will have less than the new YMPE in their CPP contribution.

The CPP Cost of Living Increase is subjected to an additional 4% in their contribution rate. This ensures the individual who earns more will have a higher amount of pension which will help them in their retirement. Those who earn between $68,500 to $73,200 per annum will notice some major increase. With these new rates, the eligible CPP beneficiaries will be able to manage their federal living expenses under the higher rate of inflation.

CPP Cost of Living Increase Amount

The Consumer Price Index modifies the pension amount with the average cost of living. This increase amount is reported with the regular individual income tax contribution. The changes in the MPE and contribution with the new earning cap have been increased from Jan 2024.

The recipients who are receiving 1000 CAD per month will be receiving 40 CAD monthly raises in their pension benefits. The retiree beneficiaries who are receiving 2000 CAD per month will have an 80 CAD rise in their pension benefits, and the recipients who are receiving the 3000 CAD retiree or disabled pension benefits will have having CPP Cost of Living Increase of 120 CAD per month. These are the basic exemptions for 2024 which will remain at 3,500 CAD with an outstanding increase in the ceiling on pensionable earrings.
